Once, under a Leo Sun, two Leo writers met and the seed of a dream that had already been waiting to come alive for some years began to gestate. Ideas manifest when the right people meet one another at the right time. And so, in August of 2024, during Leo season, this magazine transitioned from being a thoughtform to being a cluster of little green sprouts on the page, slowly becoming: Metaphysical Mulch. The deadline for going live? The full moon in Leo, February 2025, the first full moon of the lunar new year.
Mulch is a protective covering that keeps nutrients in the soil, prevents water from evaporating, discourages the growth of weeds, and keeps the soil from eroding in heavy weather. Metaphysics is the study of things beyond physical reality. Metaphysical Mulch is the stuff that what we sprinkle around your Heartland to keep it nourished and healthy in the turbulent weather of our times.
Metaphysical Mulch is a platform for inquisitive minds, the spiritually inclined, those who like to explore consciousness while also keeping their feet planted firmly on the muddy and fertile grounds of our human experience. You may imagine us as a tiny fruit and vegetable stand along the busy intersection of spirituality, psychology, and philosophy road. We gladly point you in the direction of a place that’s not on the map, but that we are almost entirely certain is definitely out-there.
This is a slow magazine. We move with the seasons and only post when the moon is full and when it is fully dark. You can subscribe to our magazine, and we promise not to spam you with an overwhelming amount of articles you couldn’t possibly keep up with. One or two pieces that are worthy of sitting with, every two weeks.
This magazine platform has several categories. Mulch Musings are editorial pieces from our own hand, Soil and Soul Dialogues are interviews with people whose thoughts and ideas we love to share with you, the Pollinators are artists and poets who kindly share some of their creative honey with us, and Stories From the Field are reader submitted essays about their metaphysical and mulchy experiences. We invite you to share your Story From the Field with us, because this platform is a collective endeavor and strives to build tangible webs of care and community.
We hope our pieces inspire something in you, and remind you of the remarkable magic of you being here amongst us all. We hope to enchant you, and to entice you to live your most spirited and soulful life on this gorgeous planet. You are so very welcome here. Thank you for being.
